I admit that one of my guilty pleasures is watching beauty pageants. I actively watch (I comment, I praise, I critic, I come up with my own answers to the dreaded question for the finals). Yes, I do all that. One of the local pageants I follow so religiously would be the Binibining Pilipinas.
A press launch was held at the Gateway Suites last February 2 (Thursday). Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) Chairwoman Stella Marquez Araneta, reigning Binibining Pilipinas titleholders Shamcey Supsup, Dianne Necio, and Isabella Manjon together with the pageant sponsors officially opened the search for the next batch of beauties (and brains) that will be representing the Philippines to the Miss Universe, Miss International and Miss Tourism. It was also confirmed that coronation night will be on April 15, 2012 (Sunday).
The Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) calls on single Filipinas age 17 to 25 years old to try out at becoming the next Filipina beauty queen. Application to the Binibining Pilipinas 2012 pageant is now open to interested single ladies ages 17 to 25 years old, with Filipino citizenship, at least 5 feet 6 inches tall, at least high school graduate and of good moral character (if you have posed for men’s magazine before then forget about trying because you will just be disqualified). Application forms may be downloaded from the Bb. Pilipinas official website, http://www.bbpilipinas.com or by clicking this LINK (PDF file of the official application form).
Interested candidates are encouraged to apply in person. Kindly also bring the following: original birth certificate (authenticated by the National Statistics Office), certified true copy of high school diploma, Philippine passport (if any), close-up and full body photos, and written consent from parents (if under 18 years old). Applications are accepted from Monday to Friday, 10AM to 6PM at the BPCI office in the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Cubao, Quezon City. February 7 marks the final open screening deadline for Bb. Pilipinas 2012. The official candidates will be announced on February 9.
1st and 2nd Runners-up from last year’s batch (Janine Tugonon and MJ Lastimosa) will be joining the bevy of beauties again this year. I sure do hope MJ bags the Binibining Pilipinas-Universe title this time. I will surely root for her. I just hope that the organization will not change their rules on allowing runner-ups to join provided they resign from their duties to avoid any bias.
