Bourne Legacy In Manila

Yes, I am talking about the Bourne film series which starred Matt Damon and a whole slew of Hollywood personalities including Julia Stiles, Franka Potente, Joan Allen and many others). It started with Bourne Identity in 2002, Bourne Supremacy in 2004, Bourne Ultimatum in 2007 and the 4th standalone installment of the movie Bourne Legacy will be shot in the Philippines, South Korea, New York and some other undisclosed places (watch the movie to know where).

Swiped from Google Images. This is obviously not the official poster.

I am kinda stoked that they chose to shoot in the busy streets of Manila. Shooting will last for a month according to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chairman Francis Tolentino. The TDF character of Jason Bourne (played by Matt Damon) is not being eliminated contrary to speculations. This film is not an entirely different filming outfit or a prequel or something. No one’s replacing Matt Damon (much to the elation of his followers). There will be a whole new hero, a whole new chapter to the story. This is a stand-alone project like I mentioned in the intro. Academy Award nominee Jeremy Renner (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and Hurt Locker) will play as the new killer agent Aaron Cross trained by same people who put Jason Bourne. Jeremy Renner will be a fresh face to the series and he don’t look bad either.

In a letter to the Philippine producer of the “Bourne Legacy,” Nikolo Juban, last Tuesday, Secretary to the Mayor Rafaelito Garayblas said the city has granted their request to temporarily close to vehicular traffic several areas in Manila. According to what I have read they only paid Php500 to shoot. Oh and by the way, MMDA released a statement that they will be fixing Pasay Rotonda so it would look nicer. I personally think that this is NOT necessary because the areas for the shoot were chosen because of how it looks like: chaotic, unorganized, horrendous traffic, and such. Do you agree with me here? Cleaning the area for the movie will only be a stopgap measure and will be a waste of money.

The location for the shoots include portions of:
San Andres St. from January 11 to 15
San Andres corner Quirino and Taft Avenue January 14
Leveriza Street, from Balingkit to San Andres on January 15
J. Bocobo corner Remedios streets from January 18 and 19
Riverside Road, Real and Sta. Lucia Streets in Intramuros January 25, February 17 and 18
Jones Bridge on February 5
Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard from February 8 to 15

Parts of Ayala Avenue, Pasay Rotonda, Marikina City Market, Navotas Fish Port and Pasay Taft will also be converted to movie sets. MMDA said a long car chase scene is being planned along Taft Avenue in Pasay City. According to reports, some scenes will also be shot in El Nido in Palawan. If you are from those areas, ensure that you check where the new routes are so that you will not be caught in heavy traffic as those areas will be closed, expect road closures, intermittent traffic delays and use of alternate routes.

“The Bourne Legacy,” written and directed by Tony Gilroy, centers on CIA operative Aaron Cross played by Renner. The movie is slated to be released in the United States in August 2012. Jeremy Renner has been here in the Philippines since last Saturday and is currently staying in a five-star hotel in Makati City. I wonder when will Rachel Weisz and Edward Norton arrive.

The movie producers are currently looking for CROWD TALENTS (read: extra). If you are intereseted, please send your name, age, height, vital stats, numbers to reach you and some photos to For being a part of the film, you will be duly compensated per shooting day (not per hour, not per appearance). Get your Hollywood exposure now… – Not 100% sure if this is true. Please be cautious before you send. Just found this info in FB.

Now, this is good press for the Philippines…
